Fish Tales

When a person tries to teach another something that he/she already knows it is termed 'teaching a fish to swim.' But what if someone is compelled to do something that he/she is not familiar or comfortable with? How would you term it.? I had an inspiring talk with a colleague on this. We had a good laugh when he came out with this new expression, 'telling a fish to walk,' when someone was given a task outside his/her expertise.
Well this is the case with most of us in the teaching profession. We are but fishes that swim. Most of us are qualified in certain fields and are most comfortable with them but sorry to say that today we find teachers qualified in Mathematics teaching other subjects except Mathematics and those qualified in Art teaching English and so on and so forth. The dilemma does not end here where teaching is concerned. Teachers have added responsibilities going beyond the classroom. It involves administrative work, disciplining children, counselling children, correcting children's work and assignments and even as caregivers when a child falls sick.
In short we can say that teachers are heavily loaded but many have not been given the proper recognition and appreciation for their services to mankind. In fact, they have been taken for granted.
