MOTHER-A POEM INSPIRED BY OEDIPUS REX

MOTHER
A child she bore but was unseen,
Tears rolling were never seen.
Poor Marry left it near a country gate,
The child was now in the hands of fate.
Dawsons had the hearts and souls divine,
Lady cried, “Its mine! Its mine!
Father Dawson took it to school’s gate,
John was now half score and eight.
Marry, 34, in a brothel left alone to keen,
Her make up made her look still green.
Young John, with friends, came to the gate,
Alas! With Marry he went to mate.
An Oedipus did marry see in the boy green,
Next week, again the boy was seen.
Blinded with lust, he reentered the gate,
Dead Marry hanging was his fate.
Dead she was and was never seen,
Oedipus alone was left to keen.
