Did you greet everyone today?

We do greet everyone we meet during the day but what strikes me as really odd is that there are people who do not find it necessary to greet their own family members. All the simple ‘Good morning’s and ‘Good night’s are slowly becoming extinct.

It is very surprising that children attending the best of schools who keep ranting ‘Good Morning Mam’ and ‘Good Afternoon Mam’ also are very insensitive to wishing their elders.

A greeting is an acknowledgement of the presence of the other person. It also shows respect towards fellow humans. It may be verbal or may be expressed through gestures or physical expressions of love.

I recently went for a get together. There were some 20 women and children present. A young boy entered and wished all 20 people individually and very respectfully. It was great to see such values.

When I complimented her mother she told me that at home, they touch the feet of their elders whenever they meet or greet each other. That is how he got introduced and used to the idea of greeting.

It was a beautiful insight and it is true that children always follow in the foot steps of their elders. It becomes neceaasry then that we set good examples for our children to follow!
