What's Happening to Me?

Am I seeing things or is my mind playing tricks on me again?
It was Monday as usual and lessons were supposed to begin after assembly. The teachers had gathered on the raised platform while the students had lined up according to their classes. My attention was focussed on this particular female student who seemed to hide her face among the rest in front of her. She was one of those who liked to dab a bit of make up even to school against school regulations.
I thought that I will penalise this student for improper attire to school when I have my lesson with them after the short recess. Furthermore, she had a history of misconduct recorded earlier by the discipline board.
When recess was over, I was in her classroom ready for the lesson to begin but I noticed that she was not in. I wondered what had happened to her and on questioning the class I discovered that she was absent from school that morning! This was strange! How did I see her during the assembly if she was actually not there? The rest of the students in the class were perplexed as they looked at each other.
Suddenly one of the girls said,"Teacher, I saw her bag near the library this morning during break. Shall I go and see if it is still there?"
Then one of the boys added, "Teacher, I saw her come into the school grounds as usual in the morning and I saw her leave her bag near the library. Then she walked out of the school gates."
I instructed both students to go and see if the bag were still around. Shortly after, they returned to inform me that it wasn't there anymore. Someone had removed it during the short break. Could she have returned and taken her bag during the crowded break time when it was not easy to be spotted or did someone else help her? The class was certain she was not in school the rest of the day for she had not attended any lessons for the day.
I advised both students to report to the school's Principal about the incident.
When her parents were contacted they confirmed that she was dropped off at school in the morning as usual and they were perplexed as well as annoyed over the situation. They couldn't believe that their darling daughter would ever cheat them and the school by playing truant.
