Safe net usage is required to prevent indulgence of children in the internets glorifying world of porn, explicit sexuality, sexual predators and hacking sites. The world has changed and so have the ways to reach out to the people. Today we find plenty of sites which bring people together to share their views and thoughts, make new friends, correspond and flash their ideas and thoughts and display their photos and videos. But children have a rampant access to internet and use it to gather information for their projects and reports, check out sports scores, participate in polls, and to practice their skills.

Children feel the freedom when they surf the net and sit out for long hours making new friends and chat. It is the social networking sites which have mushroomed in the recent past and have changed the whole concept of reaching out.

But safe net practice and usage is a matter of concern today and it needs constant monitoring and check by elders. It is the tendency of the children to know more and more about sex. They simply go crazy on surfing the sites displaying vivid videos of nude women. It is not only children who go in for social networking but the teenagers are more of technology savvy.

Safe netsurfing and browsing is a distant dream which needs to be accomplished through dedicated efforts by leaders like Google who have launched a national Internet safety campaign called ‘Be Net Smart’ and has taken safe browsing head on.

Some important tips on safe net usage are as follows:-

1. As for parents, they should teach their children how to use net safely.

2. Perhaps never let children give personal details on net.

3. Their e mail accounts should also be monitored so as to avoid any mishaps.

4. When ever unwanted mail or spam is reported in account it should be brought to the notice of the service provider.

5. Parents can guide on deciding the games their children should play online as all games come with age ratings.
