Our national music instrument is fujara - long (1,7m) wooden pipe with strong sound. Only men can play it. It was typical instrument in the shepherd´s regions were it sound spreads above hills beautifully. The player was also the singer. He uses to play short variation on fujara and then sings a part of song. They were slow ballades about men´s disaster among the woods.

The most popular folk music is from central Slovakia, from around the river Hron. This music is very fast and melodiously. Also gipsy music has stable position among favorite dance music.
