How to keep flowers fresh in the vase
Hi Guys, I am here to answer any simple queries you may have on gardening, floristry, rainwater harvesting, housekeeping, needle related crafts, etc., etc., etc.... See you soon! Cheers, Sylvia
Tip for the day : 1) Cut your flowers one inch under water before arranging in vase. This clears the air bubble and allows stems to 'drink' and keep them fresh.
2) Always cut stems at a slant. This creates a larger area for the material to absorb water.
3) When transporting flowers and plant material over long distances, place cuttings in damp newspaper, roll up and seal in a polythene bag.
4) Revive wilted flowers and plant cuts by wrapping in newspaper and placing flat in bathtub with just enough water to soak the newspaper.
5) Make sure your containers and implements are clean and not a breeding ground for bacteria.
6) Ripe fruit and spent flowers give out gases that will quickly spoil your flowers.
7) Make sure that your vase is not a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Change water regularly and clean out ripe leaves and spent flowers.

Thank you and sorry Padmini
Thank you and sorry Padmini for the delay in replying you. I will be covering all these in an article in the near future. I am hoping to see more interest in these articles or else I feel as though I am wasting my time here.
I have been asked to contribute to certain garden magazines and will be bringing up some good material based on what I have learned, and my experience in relation to different climatic conditions. My experience dates back to the early 70s! I have won awards both in floristry and horticulture and participated in international events.
Cheers
