Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing method between a website owner called an Affiliate and an online merchant. The website owner places ads on his website to either sell the merchant's products or to send customers to the merchant's website. By this an affiliate gets some share in revenue.
There are three ways to earn revenue through affiliate marketing.
1. Pay per click - In this arrangement an affiliate is paid when a customer first visits the affiliate's website and then goes to merchant's website by clicking on the link which shows the way.
2. Pay per sale - Every time a product is sold as a result of ads on the affiliate's website a commission is paid to the affiliate.
3. Pay per lead - Each time a client registers at merchant's website by diverting from the affiliate's website a fixed revenue is paid to the affiliate.
For may website owners this is a lucrative way to earn some extra money without doing anything. The affiliate can sit at home and see that revenue rolls in.
It is also beneficial for the merchant. By placing ads on websites of affiliates, he has free advertising and doesn't need to do much selling on his own. The more affiliates he recruits the more exposure his products get.
Affiliate marketing has success only when affiliates get paid well. An affiliate should find out such merchant from whom he can expect assured return.
