Thinking About John

I keep thinking about John Wayne from time to time. In his day he was great. I was young then. I loved his movies. My father told me he was a good actor so we both watched for his movies and went to see them. The swaggering hero, smart lawman, he defeated every enemy with style and intelligence. He was my kind of guy. When he died I thought - here is a real loss. The saddest thing, though, is that there has never been a good replacement. You would imagine that in the world of movies when one truly great guy goes, there's going to be another. The heroes of today just don't have his class. John Wayne was a gentleman. A brave man with style and class. There just isn't anyone else to match the character he displayed. I believe its more than a lack of the right actors. Its the times. Nowadays there just is not a demand for this kind of guy. Its sad. Character, bravery and class make a memorable movie star. Not technogrunts, as you might call them. All muscle and no class. Then again - as if we don't know it !
