The Indian Classical Music...(2)

satishKRT's picture

In later stages the Gandharva veda was propagated by the masters in which the first classical style and patterns of singing and music were described in detail.

Indian classical music has mainly two style of performance. The North Indian pattern is called Hindustani and South Indian style of music and recitation is known as Karnataki. Although, there is no fundamental difference between these two styles as the original principle is the same. The only difference that has affected the north style is that the north Indian classical music kept changing itself due to the influence of other out side and migratory style of the music, over the years. But south Indian style remain the same and intact as it has been.

After coming of Mughals new Ragas and Ragnies were developed and enriched Hindustani music. The pure and old Ragas were replaced by the newer ones. The entire Indian classical music has two departments. While the folk music and songs were for common people the classical for intellectuals only. The folk music gives importance to the words and its meaning. The classical tries to be spiritual. During the Muslim period however, there were constant exchanges between classical and folk. The classical and Durbar (court) singing were mutually become synonym of each other.

Actually the big quality of music is to give pleasure to the audience. The young people who have drifted from this classical art and attracted to western style of music often complain of it being slow and boring. would surprise to note that some young classical musicians and singers are working on this subject to cater to the new needs and have come out with new Ragas and Taal with modern and experimental fusions.
