The comic Scenario of India...!

Indian news papers have been using the services of cartoonist very well.
Some of the prominent and popular name in this unique field of journalism
Are-R.K.Luxman, Sudhir Dar, Ajit Ninan, Sudhir Taleng, Rajendra Puri, O.V.Vijayn, Abu Abraham, Ravishanker, Shanker, Mario Miranda and Kak(Hindi).

Apart from cartoons some comic strips, which appeared in three panels, are also popular among readers. The comic strips such as Garfield (Jim Devis), The Wizard of ID (Parker), Hager the Horrible (Dik Brown),Bettle Bailay(Mort walker) and some others are hits and published by most of the news paper. But most of these comic strips represent western culture and environment and distributed either by American or British syndicates which I don’t think serve any purpose though. There are some Indian comic strips which tries to represent Indian culture and environment are few and far between but have gained effectiveness and support from readers.

I some time wonder why not so many young and new Indian comic strip creators are coming up despite so much humor and tragedy of errors in their lives! While the success of graphic novels is one indication of new trend the decline of comics’ readership is another. But I am sure the days of comics will come back again and we’d see lots of Manga comic books and booklets with new modern story lines with new characters in stylish format.
