Meaningless Development

Most of the people of our country are dependent on agriculture and it is a fact that mostly they live from hand to mouth. This is evident from the spate of suicide incidents in Punjab and Haryana, where the farming community is trapped under the debt of banks and traders. It is a matter of great importance that we are slowly moving from an agrarian economy to an industrial one. Farmers and agriculturalists in villages are fed up with the problems of water and electricity and moreover low agricultural produce. Due to these socio-economic compulsions they are forced to sell their lands and other belongings in order to survive the miserable fate of utter poverty.

Today many people who are well to do and are earning handsomely are able to buy all the luxuries and comforts of life. It is assumed that by driving a car or owning a large screen TV set or owning a flat in a posh area is a sign of rise in standard and overall growth of an individual.

But if we think deeply, there are only a few elite, rich and influential who are the beneficiaries of the industrial growth of our nation. This section of population is only 10 to 12 percent, where as rest of the people are living below the poverty line and are reeling under the immense pressure of price rise and inflation.

Our country is called “Incredible India”, where a large section of population even today goes to sleep without two square meals, what to talk of any access to luxuries and comforts of a home. They even don’t possess the basic life line amenities like food, shelter, clothing, health and recreation.

These underprivileged ones are made to realize that it is their fate and destiny to live in poverty and being ‘poor’ is their state of post, mailed by God.

A nations progress and development is meaningless, until and unless the basic human needs are accessible to one and all, irrespective of his socio economic status.
