Why is Earth dying?

Did you know who is Man’s biggest enemy? Well the answer is that man is himself his own fiend. This is because of his lust for money and fortune. This is perhaps due to his never ending urge to rule this planet which never belonged to him. In ordinary words we can say that we have hired this planet form our ancestors and are living on this, as if this is our final destination.

Human being is slowly destroying its home ‘the earth’, its resources and all that we have inherited from our ancestors. In times to come, the future generations may live in a world without trees, flowers with many animals becoming extinct and perhaps this would be a barren planet devoid of flora and fauna. The lands would be dry and barren, the seas would be much polluted and lifeless.

At this juncture I may ask a question, Are we going to give this in return to our progeny? Who might ask and wonder if their ancestors were so mindless creatures who lived for themselves only.

Everyday, more and more trees are being chopped down. By doing this we are destroying the natural habitat and endangering certain species of flora and fauna. Some birds and animals are already extinct and many others are near extinction. There is also massive soil erosion all over the world.

The rivers and seas are polluted because of dumping of toxic waste by factories. There is a widespread destruction of marine including fish, mammals and corals. Oils spills occur frequently, which add to the pollution. Many seas are no longer safe for swimming and fishing.

The air has not escaped man’s destructive touch. Exhaust fumes from vehicles on road and industries have polluted it. Toxic fumes and noxious gases from factories and industries have made it worse. There is open burning of garbage and dry leaves which add to the pollution. There is an indiscriminate use sprays, air-conditioners and refrigerators that release chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) into the air.

Nevertheless, our planet earth is dying a slow death day by day. The inhabitants of the globe are watching just like mute spectators and just doing nothing. Or are we going to take a stand and do something about it? The solution is in our hands. All of us must take an active role in reducing pollution. Only a united effort by the global community can we save our earth from certain death.
