Wonderful Antarctica

Antarctica is synonymous with cold, thanks to its polar location, its high elevation, its lack of a protective, water-vapor filled atmosphere, and its permanent ice cover which reflects about 80% of the sun's radiation back into space. It is a very rough circular shape with the long arm of the Antarctic Peninsula stretching towards South America. There are two large indentations, the Ross and Weddell seas and their ice shelves. It is thought to have large and valuable mineral deposits under the ice. This is because of what has been found in samples taken from the small areas of rock that are exposed, and also from what has been found in South Africa and South America.
Antarctica is located in the Southern Hemisphere (the half of the globe that is south of the equator). The continent overlies the south pole and covers 13,824,000 square kilometers (5,400,000 square miles). It is the fifth largest landmass on the globe.
Antarctica is one of the earth’s seven continents. Temperatures on Antarctica regularly reach 50 degrees below Fahrenheit.View the beautiful Antarctica images:
