My First Voyage

It was planned that I would take my first visit to the Arabian nation by ship. This was the second time that I had put myself to sea, with merchants of known probability. We embarked on board of a good ship and after recommending ourselves to God we set to sail. Much time passed by, there was no sight of any land or island, although we could see some sea-birds flying by. They came to our hallo and took food that we ate.

One day we landed on an island covered with meadows, alongwith streams that watered it. The crystalline streams were very noisy yet attractive. Surprisingly we could see neither man nor animal. We walked along the streams and bathed ourselves in the cold water and reffreshened ourselves.

Some fellow mariners mostly women, caught the fancy of the flowering trees which they had never seen and started to gather flowers and other wild fruits.

Finding an isolated shady tree, I sat down near the stream, took out my wine and provisions. The trees provided a wonderful view of the sun-bathed crystalline waters falling from some height. I made a good meal, and afterwards fell asleep.

I don’t know how much I slept, but when I awoke the ship was no longer in view.
