Reminiscing about the past, I remember when I was in elementary; 5th grade. I joined the track team and participated in the field relays. I was really prepared that time. I always attended practice every afternoon and on saturdays too. This is how it happened. It's the mini olympics, and my coach says to me, "Pearl you'll be the 3rd runner in the relay team." I answered, "Okay coach no problem" I wanted our group to be champions again like last year in 4th grade. This is what happened. I felt very conscious when I say my crush wearing very short shorts. He was showing his legs off and they looked like girls legs. Long legs that didn’t have any bruises and where whiter than even mine. He doesn’t even know that I have a crush on him. Even my friends don’t know about him.
I would be assigned to another group, and I didn’t want that to happen. Our first runner had won first place in the single event. The time had come for us to run, so we all had to give it our best. ‘I’m really ashamed about this; I was about to receive the baton (stick) when I heard my crush call out my name. He said, "Pearl drink water first." At the time we were already out in the field. I don’t know why I drank the water because it made me feel confused and dizzy. Then my crush just kept looking at me. I felt like my heart stopped for a millisecond. While I was looking for my crush on the sidelines; I didn't notice that I had a player to my side.
When I wake up, I'm in the middle of the field. I could see everyone looking at me; specially my coach. I have wounds near my eyes and I have bandages on them. I was about to say, "I'm okay" when suddenly I hear the voice of my crush. Even though I was surrounded by people; I pretend that I'm sleeping. I can't face my team mates, because of what happened. I'm the reason that we finished second place. I can’t take it, that my crush saw me in that situation. I couldn’t look at him seeing my have bandages on my eyebrow and bruises all over my body and my seeing my ugly legs full of scars…. :(
Since then, I didn’t join any competition in my highschool that require to wear shorts.
