Teenage Girls and Smoking

It is during the teenage that many boys take to smoking, but today we find many teenage girls actively taking to smoking. These teenage blondes, who regularly smoke, believe that cigarette smoking can help keeping them slim and on the same make them look grown-up and also it controls their stress. It is not that they are not aware of the health risk it can cause in future, but they simply ignore it.

The habit of smoking is on an increase and many older women are also falling a prey to this menace. One in five girls of high school is a smoker. It is being felt that the anti-smoking message is not reaching them, rather the teenage girls are more vulnerable to smoking, a habit which is hard to give up.

It is also that when any member of the family is a smoker like parents or an uncle the girls are likely to take to it just out of curiosity. They also want to catch the attention of the opposite sex and want to show off in their group.

Women taking to cigarette smoking early in their life are more prone to breast cancer. They may have few or no children at all. Their first full term pregnancy may be at a very late stage of their life.

Cancer risk of breast can be prevented if cigarette smoking is quitted. Women have a slow-acting form of a liver enzyme that normally detoxifies carcinogens. Because these women's "detox" enzymes act more slowly than the enzymes of other women, the carcinogens in tobacco last longer in their bodies, allowing the substances more time to cause cancer. For such women, every cigarette loads the dice in favor of breast cancer.
