News WE Use

Every day we wake up to new ideas, thoughts and news. However, how new are the new “news items” seems to be a big question of the era. Increased number of news channels, newspapers may promise to be the fastest, the ones to provide the best of news. However, what news do they provide which is of our use? News which says that a young economically challenged boy was beaten up because he stole a loaf from a shop, or a big shots marriage was organized in the city or some celebrity visited a shrine. Let us analyse these three new items and see what we use from it:
1. A boy’s stealing and being thrashed is well shot and telecast but the biggest question is what news do we use from this news item? The crime in stealing, the crime in beating a hungry half clad boy who needs just a piece of bread or the more sinners who are shooting such dastardly acts. Does any one have an answer?
2. A high-budget wedding organized by some big shot in a developing country which is still thinking in terms of providing at least one square meal to one-fourth of its population. Are we looking for the dress code, the menu, the long cars in such news items or are we trying to figure out how has some one been able to do thin is such a poor country where people are starved and struggling to get a morsel in a day.
3. A Celebrity horse ride to a shrine in heavy snowfall or walks all the way to the Goddess is news. Why? Aren’t there any other devotees? Was the celebrity the sole worshipper struggling in dire states to visit the shrine? Was she taking extra pain as compared to the other devotees? Or is it that she was more special to the deity because she was a celebrity and the other worshippers were commoners for the Lord as well?
I am sure most of us might be thinking like me. I am hopeful that reporters, news editors and news channels take heed of the fact that viewers and readers are not here to take all shit. It is important to provide good stuff and sensible news for the viewers’ and readers’ utility.
