Should Sex Education be made Mandatory?
One day it so happened that an adolescent girl started bleeding profusely. The anguished boy with her didn’t know much how to help or do something. Perhaps the girl was of eighth standard and was very excited when all of a sudden her parents left her alone for a night to attend some urgent social obligation. The incident left the parents, teachers and friends shocked.
Well the question which arises here is that should sex education be imparted to the young adults of 11 to 12 years of age. The very idea of sex education at school level is a borrowed one and without looking and studying and analyzing it, some nations like India enforce it into the school curriculum.
Are we prepared to give this exposure to the adolescent young minds at such an early age? The young children look for more excitement and stimulation each passing day. Interestingly why not pass some time with the youngsters sitting with them, discussing with them about their social interactions with their mates instead. There is sexual undertone in many a gossip and games played in the classrooms. For instance, asking for daring feats like proposing to a friend, kissing, or maybe hold her hand followed by dating.
Just the mention of sex education classes makes children blush. It has become a matter of entertainment for some and a headache for the administration. Rather than aping the western sex education programmes, shouldn’t we plan our education as per our culture and area specific needs?

there is no reason
to be discreet about sex education as we know how media is exposing the realities and cruelties in life. Both parents and teachers should make it their responisibility to give the children the necessary education on sex . Its better to discuss it in open rather than make it more curious and suspicious in the eyes of children by hesitating to talk and teach about sex.

Dhanya, it the tendency of children to know those things which
parents often hide or discuss in shadows!
I agree with you in that children should be given exposure at school level that is better as what teachers can teach we cant do!
thanx!
I think sex education is a must
as parents can not teach such things to their children.I always want to make the younger generation realise the danger of AIDS .I strongly feel that all the young people should be taught about safe sex.
