Man lives in a society where his progress inevitably depends on the people around him. They may or may not correspond with his ideas. If your influencing skill is refined and polished you can succeed easily in life.

Influence is the ability to get things done in the way you desire. It is also the key factor to success and happiness.It can help you negotiate and build relationships.
This ability to influence people appears in many forms – in the form of wealth, status, power, cause or ability to communicate. In the present day world the ability to lead is “decisive factor” for growth. And leadership is all about influencing others. The power to influence people is the inherent skill of all humans.

Take for instance, a child can persuade his father to buy a toy car. When he grows up he wants a bike and later he can convince his parents to let him choose a career that HE is interested in. Now what is the secret behind these achievements? It is the ability to lead. The child’s father may not necessary like his decisions, but the way the child can convince him is the key factor here.

However the degree of our achievement improves with our effort to develop the skill. First thing is to be clear about your expectations from others and communicate this to them. There are certain things which have to be kept in mind to develop your influencing skill.

Listen :
To convince people you have to be a good listener. This can make them feel that you respect their ideas and value them.

Understand :
To design a strategy to put your ideas forward, it is very important that you understand the expectations of the other person.

Accommodate ideas :
If you want your ideas to get through you have to accept others’ ideas too. If you find them useful you can always use it for better cause.

Strategy :
People agree to your plans only if they feel they might gain something out of it. If they find your ideas right they will accept it. So devising a strategy to put forth your plans pays off well.

Ways of influencing :
This may include inspiring, pleading, convincing, demanding or even threatening.

But above all is the skill to communicate effectively and as human beings it would be best to get yourself across without hurting the self respect of others.
