Don't buy the fate theory

There are hundreds of thousands of men and women and, more so in India, who simply say, "it is all my fate". This is a very dangerous stance to take in one's life, and this should never ever be accepted by anyone. In other words, we should not buy this "fate" theory.

Let us just understand fate in all its ramifications. There are just two events in a human being's life that are beyond him or her. One is birth. We cannot choose our parents. Into what family we are born and where is in God's hands.

Similarly, even if we take the best care of our health and have huge variety of medical care that is most modern to take care of us, through natural degeneration, all of us will die one day, and we just do not have any idea about this date, though many claim that astrology has some answers in this respect.

Be that as it may, there is only one more event -- marriage, that is thought as "not in our hands". In other words, it is commonly believed that the person we are going to marry is someone who is born only for us. However, if one chooses to remain single, this viewpoint looses its value.

Apart from birth and death, everything else is very much within man's control. Even if we see the poorest of the poor, we often notice that the more enterprising of such people do something more than others who simply accept their conditions and do nothing to make the maximum of a given set of circumstances or opportunities.

Efforts do matter. In fact, only efforts make a whale of a difference. Fate, in fact,is something that happens to anyone of us, inspite of all our efforts, but not without them. This "them" means the efforts.

For instance, what we do between 6AM today and 6AM tomorrow, will make a huge difference to our lives today, tomorrow and for even the future. We could waste it by doing routine work, and just wasting our free time watching TV in the evening. Or, we could jolly well, avoid watching the TV, and concentrate on reading a value-added book, writing, or developing our special talent, like singing or dancing or whatever. Today is what counts, no matter what we do. However, whatever we do should be value-adding.

In today's world, qualifications and experience do matter. Hence, we always need to have far better qualifications than what we have and also gather valuable experience by doing meaningful things. Our fate will then be different. We would be able to see new opportunities, new avenues for growth.

Hence, whatever we do, we should never think that it is our fate. We should never feel that we are so unfortunate, while several others are so very well off. Nothing is farther from truth.

No matter howsoever wealthy or successful people are, each one of them has problems. However, the way they react to problems is always different. Those who are smart and hard-working make a huge success in their lives and go far ahead in their lives than others who do not act like that.

Hence, in my personal opinion, the "fate" argument mostly becomes an excuse for inaction. It is nothing but a defense mechanism. It does not add any value to our lives.

Instead, we always need to work on our strengths and eliminate our weaknesses, to the maximum extent possible. Fate will then open new doors and make our lives that much happier for all of us.

Fate and all that

Thank you Dhanya rijesh. Don't you think we are victims of some outdated thinking ofent imposed on us? If it were all fate, how is that the Japanese succeed so well in whatever they do? I guess it is their own belief that everything is possible, and that it is possible to conquer even the best that is there in USA. I do believe we need to actively cultivate the "can-do" spirit and make a success of our lives. We need to make a very accurate assessment of our stremgths and weaknesses and get going. Otherwise, we will be lgaaing behind our peers. Thank you so much for your thougts.

Efforts and fate

Thank you Shantikumar. Is it not a great gift of God who has given us the power to think? In fact our thoughts take us to the greatest heights or help us to plunge to the lowest. Most often, our own fears and inhibitions stand in the way. Let us get out of our phobias and do our best. Thank you so much for your ideas.
