You must be familiar with Hallmarking:-Part I

Hallmarking in jewellery is something that is very common that you get to see and hear in the Television commercials, news paper ads and in all the medias of advertising. Let me give you a brief idea on what it is all about.
By Hallmarking jewellery one is sure about the purity of the jewellery that is Hallmarked. A piece of jewellery that is Hallmarked will have the following five details laser marked on it. The purity of the jewellery, the year of Hallmarking, the Symbol of the Assay centre from where the jewellery was Hallmarked, the logo of the jewller and finally the BIS logo if in India. BIS stands for the Bureau of India Standards.
All these mentioned signs are seen on the jewellery that is Hallmarked and you must be wondering how it is possible to give so much details on a piece of jewellery, after all it’s a jewellery and not a sheet of paper!! But the fact is that all these are laser marked on the jewellery and an expert can see it with his naked eye or one can use a magnifying glass or lens to see the details engraved on it. So next time you buy a Hallmarked jewellery see to it that you check for these engravings which are usually done on the back side or inner portion of the jewellery and fell convinced that the money you had spent is worth the purity of gold you have in your hand.
