Basic Respect

It was one of the happiest moments for the partially handicaps there and also one of the biggest disappointment for me when I got there with them. I was so looking forward to this occasion but went I got there to celebrate with them, things that I expected did not turn up my way. Taking for example, the buffet lunch I was expecting them to ask the members who are not so mobile to take their food first and then the mobile ones but to my anguish the volunteers are the ones who are choosing the food for them. They didn’t even bothered to ask for their opinion whether the members wanted them to take the food for them or not or whether they wanted to take the food by themselves. They just start taking the food for them. I feel that they don’t respect them at all. Who are they to help the members to make decisions? They don’t even have the right to help them choose what they wanted or do not want to eat. The stomach is theirs and the food they are eating suppose to go into their stomach and not theirs so they should be ones who are making the decisions for themselves and not the volunteers. I do appreciate the goods intentions of the volunteers behind it because they wanted to help them to take the food to them to make them easier to eat but there should be a basic respect in the sense that they should ask them what they would like or don’t like to eat. The things the volunteers like might not be to our members liking not lump all the food in the plate then serve it to them like some kind of rojak. I was very put off by their that kind of behavior. I may not attend this kind of functions again.
