How Safe are Women today?

Girls today are in the net of the net as someone is playing a prank on them through the misuse of modern technology that we call networking blues! Recently two girls of a fast developing township set themselves in the problem hard to come out from. Well the dirty joke was all about the posting of their profiles and details on a leading social networking tool. These included the mention of their telephone numbers, mobile nos, addresses etc.

Strangely the girls belonging to well to do families started getting the shocks of their lives as a hell in the form of unlimited telephone calls broke on them. Most of the people, probably miscreants and the ones with nefarious designs yet obscure ones, got their profiles from the portal and started approaching them as the profile vividly defined them as prostitutes. The profiles had been posted alongwith the morphed photographs in nude.

Well the policing of the site is not to question. What is important today is “How safe are the women from such cases of fast proliferating crimes.” The crime against the woman is on an increase in the form of physical, moral, or social abuse or network crime! There is ample gender bias prevailing in the society today as is evident from such heinous crimes such as feticide and infanticide.

Perhaps there is a great sense of insecurity in almost every nook and corner of the country take for instance New Delhi where the crime rate is very high. They are perhaps taken to be toys in the hands of men, in this male dominated society, who can just play and forget the incident!

It is the women belonging to the poorer sections of the society who are at the receiving end as they are not the affluent, lack in power and do not have their own security. Yet I would say, Poor or Weak, Rich or Famous, it the woman who is extremely vulnerable and is suffering as far as crime is concerned.
