Was it the mere mosquito that caused the extinction of the Dinosaurs?

A recent bizarre argument suggests that mightiest creatures to have ever lived on the planet may have been brought down by a tiny, much less dramatic force -- biting, disease-carrying insects. David overpowering Goliath yet again. Scientists now believe that the diseases spread by ancient mosquitoes, mites and ticks was probably the killer blow that finished off the reptiles. During the later part of the dinosaurs' reign insect numbers and species exploded. The world was then covered with warm-temperate to tropical areas swarming with blood-sucking insects.

The infections that these insects carried would have caused repeated epidemics that slowly wore down dinosaur populations. This theory however bizarre it sounds may hold the key to the answer that the whole world had been seeking. It is strengthened by the fact that it clearly elucidates as to why the Dinosaur population faded away gradually. Something which cannot be explained by the Impact and the Volcanic theory.

Science has got us a long way forward but there are still some mind boggling questions which even the Scientists cannot answer. Science can yet not answer some riddles that Nature has put forth to us. For the time being, it is believed that an asteroid impact, a volcanic eruption or just the tiny insects brought a cataclysmic end to these Behemoths some sixty five million years ago. The next time you swat a mosquito, feel proud of yourself. You would have just killed the creature that brought about the end of the omnipotent dinosaurs. A Time machine may just be the answer to find as to what really killed the Dinosaurs. Till then we have to believe these theories.
