What true friendship means and how it can work
I have had a friend for over twenty years. I call him over phone off and on, but each time I do so, there is a lot to share, and absolute faith that he would never ditch me, do all that is possible to help me in whatever little way he can, or share all my joys and sorrows.
This is exactly what I would call as true friendship. Whether it is a man or a woman, such true friendships always go far beyond commercial considerations or small-short relationships that take off for a while and then go bust soon after.
True friendship means doing all that is possible to keep one another happy. It involves absolute ownership of the happiness of the other person's happiness and welfare, if it involves two persons, and many more, if it involves a big group. I sometimes see such relationships between very young people in the IT sector. They seem to enjoying their life, thanks to the huge salaries they get. They seem to share all the knowledge and skills with one another and since they get to work in teams in the office, much more than would normally happen in a manufacturing organization, seem to be excellent at conflict resolution and collaboration of a very tall order.
This is exactly what should happen. I guess this is exactly what makes all the difference. True friendship should never follow the Tamil film variety where two or three or even more close friends of the hero would do all out in the latter's attempts to win over his chosen girl friend. Such frinedships are totally artificial, and are outright stupid.
True friendship is something that can never happen just like that. It involves a deep emotional involvement that is very much selfless and, goes all out of the way to see the larger benefits of a life-long relationship where either of the two human beings really cares for the other, can totally share whatever happens at home or in the office, and can even act as a bridge in case of any small misunderstanding between the husband or the wife. In fact, I know of several individuals who take on such roles, and are very happy in taking on such roles.
True friendships can work only if,either of the two persons is ready to take it to a totally different plane. It does take a lot of patience and skill to cultivate such relationships, that are based, one hundred percent, on trust and true love and affection. True friendhips are deeply emotional, and money does not have any role here, irrespective of the social status of the two individuals or even more number of individuals involved.
I have seen a few such relationships happen in real life. These have happened only based on trust, on true understanding, and are often based on an insatiable desire to cultivate such relationships. It is neither possible nor feasible, nor advisable for persons who seek pure commercial relationships. Such people need to remember that happiness in life is just not based only on money, though money can make some difference. If money were to make all the difference, only the very rich would be very happy.
From all available evidence, it happens that the most rich people also have miserable personal lives. Those in the film industry are just one example of this breed. True friendships should indeed happen, for the happiness of not only individuals, but for the society as a whole. It is up to us to make a big difference.
Let us do it now, and right now!

Thank you so much
Thank you so much, Dr Shefali. I feel so happy that I have someone like you, who possibly reads all my pieces and appreciates each of them so much.
I work with a TVS group company in a place called Sholinghur, which is around 100 kilometers from Chennai. My formal designation is Manager - HRD, though my favourite subject is now Strategic Management. I have over 25 years of experience, and I do write only what I know or see or observe in several other people around me. I consciously avoid taking ideas of other people.
Please do tell me about yourself. What do you do, and where do you live. I guess you are a Medico and as a professional, you would be able to advise me on something I want to know. Please do send me a private message.
individual social responsibility
Thank you so much Madam. I guess you are a medical practitioner. Please tell me more about yourself in a private message.
Thank you so much for the nice words and compliments. Madam, I do write from experience, and whatever I write is also derived from real-world experiences -- both mine and my close friends. When I tend to express myself in this fashion, I tend to feel very happy as I have made some people think. I would like to have a feed-back on my other articles also, please.
I love your writings Siva

True friendship
Thank you Oshan. I will certainly read your articles. Iam glad you like my articles. I always write based on my experience, and am glad that some people like you like the same. I do not refer to any book or any other reference material. I think life itself is the best teacher -- for all the good and the bad and even the ugly. Only one thing that needs to be done is to ensure that we are not lured by the bad and the ugly and always strive to stick to all that is good in everything in our lives.

True friendship
I agree with you. However, even if it very difficult to see good friends, we can still cultivate good friendship through our real care and affection. Most human beings long to be cared for, and once this is done, they will respond positively, more so, when our intentions are very noble.
Try this method, and then u will enjoy such a good friendship for ever.
true friendship means
to remain sincear to a friend in need and perhaps to be his strength and spirit in the times of test!
True friendship
I agree with you. Being sincere is a must, more so, if we were to understand and appreciate that we all go through great times of test, almost on an everyday basis. We need the physical and emotional support of friends to be assured of a good life full of fun, happiness and care and understanding.
A friend in need

Yes, true friendship
is a bond that lasts for ever. A bond that cannot be broken by any one at any point in time. A bond that sustains far beyond commercial relationships, a bond that means so much for the relationship between two people or even more people.
Anything that is real will sustain. And flourish. It is great having such learned persons like you as great friends here. It does mean quite a lot in terms of several strands of encouragement, that also makes me so motivated and active. Thank you once again for your comments, and please do accept my seasons greetings as well. Out here, it is a great morning, much colder than in previous years. A great climate as the sun just comforts anyone, and does not make him or her sweat.
