Was it an Asteroid Impact that killed the Dinosaurs?
The most commonly believed theory is that of the Asteroid Invasion. It is purported that an object about 10 kilometres wide struck our planet. The asteroid struck the planet with a massive force of about 300 million atomic bombs. The earth’s atmosphere got filled with dust, gas and smoke all of which led to the choking of the Atmosphere. The layers of the Atmosphere which were now full of dust particles restricted the penetration of the sunlight. And thus without any Sunlight, all the life on the planet disappeared.
The explosion was so massive that the atmosphere remained blocked for months and an animal even the size of the mighty dinosaurs could not survive without sunlight. Devoid of sunlight, the temperatures plummeted and the Earth entered a frigid era. In fact at this time more than 70% of all the species on Earth disappeared. This mass extinction period is commonly called as K-T event (Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction event). The impact theory is believed to be the most popular cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs.
In the next article, we will see whether there could have been another cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs.
