Is TeEnAgE the right age to go INDEPENDENT?

Do you think moving out from your parents home helps teenagers to learn the ways of handling the ups and downs of life; or does it leads to an unbalanced life full of insecurities? While kids moving out of their parents’ home is very common in the west, Indian kids still at large love to go solo a bit later as compared to their western counterparts.
Going solo can help one to be independent. One has the freedom to go anywhere or do anything, without taking anybody’s consent. It can help in learning to handle different situations, personal finances and decisions. The value of time, money and relationships increases in one’s life.
But parental guidance and love plays an important part in our lives and its deprivation may harm our physical and mental well being. We may be confident but not experienced enough to live our lives on our own terms. Chances are that we may get into wrong habits or wrong company and our not – so – efficient decision – making can lead us into a mess!

Good question. Ashni it depends on the reason for going solo..
Eastern traditions tend to over protect children, for very good reasons.
A teenager or for that matter even a 30 year old brought up to respect the traditions and cultures of their individual society is not mature enough to face the world at large.
This is mainly because they are not exposed to coarse society. When circumstances present themselves to face such changes they would find themselves vulnerable and thats when they experience another side of life.
Teenagers are at a very impressionable stage and parental guidance is most required at this time. This is also the age when peer pressure forces them to reject parental regulations and is a time when tactful means of confidence building is required.
Wishing you a wonderful and prosperous 2008

An individual thing
Hey it is a nice topic to be writing on. But i guess it is an individual thing. If the person is mature enough then yes it can work but as you have mentioned if not it can backfire.

Ashni, Good question from you
It is difficult to answer since it depends on what kind of teenager you are talking about. If it is a mature person no need to worry. But as you say, parental guidance is always needed and in India parents are very protective about their children even after marriage.
I don't think there is anything wrong in this. But over protection can be avoided.
Great article from great Ashni!
Keep it up!

Human beings- wonderful creation
of god has the power to think and act , no matter in which part of the world they live if they know to practice the power of thinking and act accordingly taking the best and ignoring the rest will make sure that whether he lives with his parents or choose to live solo he will be at his best.
.........But teenage is definitly an age when the mind works like a wagabond and the question you raised here is a tough one to answer ashni

HUMAN BEINGS may be the most
HUMAN BEINGS may be the most wonderful creation, but at the same time they are too emotional too...the power of thinking is definitely the best tool for us and it grows with age ...i guess!
