You can not Enter Delhi without an Identity Card - It is a Police State now

Lieutenant-governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna announced on 4th January 2007 that possession of an identity card in Delhi will be made compulsory from 15th January 2007. Policemen will be given power to hold and interrogate any citizen or outsider. The logic behind the move is that the government want to save the city from terrorists.

Terrorists will be Happy

"Whenever you are unable to save the people from terrorism hit the people. People will think we are making them secure." It seems the thinking of Delhi government as well as Mr. Lt. Governor. The government is unable to think that terrorists can easily get fake identity cards made. Thus, the new move will not trouble them, it will harass the innocent citizens further. Instead of using energy against terrorism the police will use it against the citizens, and the real terrorists will feel happy.

Failed Administration Hit the People

Rajinder Sacchar, former chief justice Delhi High Court and former president, People's Union for Civil Liberties described this move as 'dangerous'. He said: "So many people in the city do not even have photo I-cards, this is like putting the blame for the government's own failures on hapless citizens. This is so stupid, silly and autocratic that it sounds like some order from the 15th century and they are just trying to cover up their own lack of surveillance. Where will all these migrant workers in the city get I-cards from?"

There will be new Gangs

I agree with honorable former Chief Justice. No power or arrangement can issue I-cards to all the people of Delhi just in ten days. It will create new tension in the families. Everybody will be worrying about children, parents or other family members who are not having identity cards. New criminal gangs will be formed to make fail identity cards.

Happy New Year Gift for City Police

Police will be happy to get a new opportunity to terrorize the innocent citizens and outsiders. It is much easy and a great fun than to face and eliminate real terrorism from dangerous anti-national forces.

For many policemen it will be a new earning opportunity. They extort money from the people under the name of security and make merry. A real happy new year for them.

Citizens Under Fear Now

After talking to dozens of people from all sections I new that most of the people, who were never afraid of terrorism, were now under terror of the police and the government.

GOOD NEWS: The people are having a sigh of relief that LG of Delhi made a u-turn by taking above order back due to pressure from media and CMs of many states.
