Sound Funny But Communicate Well...!

India is country of many languages and dialects.According to Indian constitution there are more than fifteen important language and around hundreds of dialects that are only spoken.
The Hindi language has words borrowed from other streams and is spoken by the largest number of people and more wide spread than any other language. But when Hindi is mixed-up with English or other regional language and dialects it become a Greek for someone and interesting for others.
Last month when I was traveling in a Delhi Transport bus with my friend I've had an experience with these mix-ups.The bus was heading for Kutumb Minar.I saw an old Harayanivi man debating with bus conductor. The old man was trying to convince bus conductor about some "Aaiteshi Colony"which falls in the same rout and to where he had to step down. But the bus conductor was not convinced,
"But there is no such stoppage at this rout! You might have caught the wrong bus!"
"But there is one!I know that...!"The old man tried to convince him once again...and the argument continued for a while.Between these heated argument,my friend who was a Haryanivi, too interpreted the debate and bluntly said to bus conductor,
"Hey why you expect everyone to speak correct English with you...He is actually trying to say A.T.C.colony not "Aaiteshi.!!"
It was time to laugh at the matter but my friend later explained it all to me about these mix-ups of languages. When school becomes"skool,a Schooter
turns as Sacooter and a railways station stands as a "Teshan".These mix-ups may sound funny but communicate well...

Good blog Satish,
Although we don't have so many languages as in India we do have different dialects in the two native languages. In recent years there is a trend to intermix English words with awful mispronunciations. Taking your example of School it is pronounced as Iss-school as with every word starting with the letter S. the word "for" is pronounced as "four" or " fore". I found a lecturer at Uni say this all the time and it confused me wholesale, it being a Math lecture, till I asked a fellow student what he really meant.
Wishing you a wonderful and prosperous 2008
