"Tribute to My Teachers !!" (part II)
I wish to pay tribute to my teachers from the days when I was a tiny-tot and it is not my intention to discredit the role of my parents both my mother and father in my life. After all I have filial bond with them which can never be severed. From my childhood days at various points of time, my teachers have extended valuable help to me and they happened to be turning points in my life.Of course, some may not find it interesting and some may even consider it superfluous. But the role played by my teachers as far as I am concerned is significant and interesting and whether you like it or not I wish to share.
I was a tiny-tot when I was admitted into the second standard in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation School, Block No.3,in the month of June. The school was newly built and the inception of the school was in the month of June.I did not have any idea of academic year and all that.I thought the school began to function from the month of June, when the school building was completed in the month of May.It was my idea that from the month of June the school would function for the whole year, as I understood it as school year.
The class teacher in the second standard was one Jayamary, a pleasing personality, underwhom I had a thorough grounding of English and other subjects.I think she was the only teacher to sign in legible handwriting enabling even a tiny-tot like me to know and read her name.Jayamary had adopted a strange method to punish her students.Of course she would not beat any of us.But those who failed to do their homework or those who were not able to answer her questions, particularly boys, she would order him to vacate his seat and go and sit nearby a girl student. The concerned student would feel ignominious and squirm for sometime. But she would not leave the boy until he occupied a seat nearby a girl.
Unfortunately, please note unfortunately, I had never had such an opportunity to sit beside a girl. Moreover, we being tiny-tots we had no any idea of sex etc.And so all the boys who were ordered to sit nearby a girl were felt embarrassed and managed to sit as far as possible compactly but not sprawling his hands or legs.
Till date I cannot understand the logic behind her way of punishment and in what way it helped a boy to discipline himself. In any event, still I remember the teacher for what she has taught to me academically.I also do not know whether she is alive or dead, but I pay my sincere tributes to her with all my heart!!
