Talent Hunts All The Way
It was a year of talent hunts all the way on TV this year. The shows displayed mega prizes and a hoard of celebrities participating in them, alongwith equal number of celebrity judges taking care of them. Channels like Zee, Sony, Star put forward their best foot with productions like ‘Indian Idol’, Jhalak Dikhla ja and Nach Baliye, were all liked by the audiences. Perhaps people were fed up with the typical Indian saas bahu stories with tulsi’s tales of woes and taltrums. Audiences simply loved to vote and to see their favorite won the title or better come in the final rounds at least.
The popular soap operas like Karamchand, Zaban Sambhal ke, Tu Tu main main, Khichdi, Sanjeevani, Office-Office, Dill Mill Gaye etc and the likes tried to make a come back but could hardly garner any popularity with the viewers. It was the KBC or popularly Kaun Banega Crorepati which made a definite mark with the audiences and stood the test of the time because it had the new Badhshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan or King Khan who replaced the Mega star Amitabh Bachan. He lived to his reputation and style and was a spinner in all ways.
Kids channels too saw great cartoons serials like Tom and Jerry, Richie Rich and Popeye and Jhonny Bravo, Ben 10, Shunk Fu and the Powerpuff girls on Pogo and Cartoon Network Television. But Just For Laughs was an instant hit with the audiences. The talent hunt shows were the clear winners as year came to the end.
