Children of the Lesser God

Children belonging to the poorer sections of the society are often seen begging or doing odd jobs in want of food or to earn a living. ‘Child abuse’ is much prevalent in many countries which are economically underdeveloped. One can see ill clad children working in small canteens, workshops factories and industries or even at road side dhabas etc. many of them are seen picking garbage dumps with huge sacks of dump on their backs. All this presents a very sordid picture. Such children should have been in schools but they are abused right under the nose of the authorities.
Childhood of small and innocent children is abused by people like constructors or manager etc as they employ them for cheap labor. Any kind of labor under the age of 14 years is banned by law. But yet we can finds millions of young children working at construction site or at tedious works. There are many reasons for this sad state of affairs of these unfortunate children. The parents of these children grind under utter poverty and consider them to be an additional working hand to support their families. Even they prefer to have large families for want of working hands. It is poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, and economic compulsions etc which are the leading factors which make them work. These children are made to work for long hours like bonded labor. Their employers underpay and underfeed them.
Many a times these innocent children fall a trap to diseases or are seriously hurt in accidents, they are left to their fate to suffer. Nobody bothers for their medical treatment or first aid. Some are so unfortunate that they have to part with their limbs and become handicapped for the rest of their lives. Many children work at factories like lead acid battery units or at bangle factories or at cracker units where they work in a sick environment and suffer due to many ailments like bronchitis, asthma and respiratory ailments etc.
It the need of the hour that this kind of child abuse must be curbed. In fact such children who are abused and made to suffer must be given their childhood and given opportunity to go to school. Or they may be given suitable training in vocations like carpentry or repairs of electronic etc. so that it may be socially useful work and they can earn a living and be something in life.
