Advice – Available In Abundance!

Recently I attended a workshop conducted by one of the academies acclaimed for Extraordinary Self Empowerment skills. Very useful as it was, it brought the negative and positive traits in a person. It stressed on effective parenting and almost all of us were quite impressed. We were shown our own face instead of the regular things that we get to hear in such workshops. One such thing that we do and never realize that we have done it is, give “advice”.

The most common commodity available with everybody probably is ….Advice. Interestingly an eminent jurist once said, “there are two types of fools--- One those who render advice and two--- those who do not take them”.

This can be proved in many circumstances. For instance, if a son fails to get good marks and his father advises him to get highest marks in the class, the son could take it less seriously and retort ,”Are you getting the highest salary ,daddy?” There ends the matter. If any father tries to go a little further and says “ Abraham Lincoln studied under street lights and came up. I have provided you with all the facilities , why can’t you understand and try to come up in life?” The son is ready to snub his father “Oh yeah daddy? Abraham Lincoln became the President of a nation at your age ,Did you?” This is exactly what advice leads to.

When we render advice we know why we did so but the child is not mature enough to accept it. He would never think that piece of advice was meant for his own good though the way it was given was ,in no way appropriate. The real value of it got lost. That is why these kind of advices are rendered by fools of first type.

Those who do not readily accept advices fall under second category. This is because they ignore advice of learned men and experienced people.

Unfortunately ,people often confine themselves to just advising but never bother to follow the same themselves. If we want to cultivate good habits in children we need to have them in ourselves. Otherwise children will never take us seriously.

People say"Advice is like vegetable, you can ask others to eat it but don't like it yourself" This was humor but reality.

I liked the workshop very much. I am looking forward to attending the next very shortly.

This world is filled with wise people

Even the worst fool thinks he can advise others better. "If we want to cultivate good habits in children we need to have them in ourselves. Otherwise children will never take us seriously." This is the best thing to learn.
