Do we have the right to have friends of opposite sex?
Fashion is such a thing which just spells a cast over us. Escaping from it is really a difficult task. Whether you talk about clothes, jewelry, hair style, talking style and so on you will find people running after what is in the fashion. Does fashion influence our outer personality only?
I feel fashion has invaded inner personality also. Its presence can be felt while talking to any person. Fashion influences thinking pattern. Like now a days making a girl friend or a boy friend is in fashion. Youngster having no boy friend or girl friend is considered to be a fool. It is thought that a smart youngster does have a friend of opposite sex. If a youngster has two or more than two girl friends or boy friends he/she is valued as a genius.
Has fashion of making friends of opposite sex made youngsters its prey only? Are mature also queuing up for it? As far as I feel even mature persons feel themselves incapable to save themselves from this fashion’s trap. Mature persons can easily be found chatting and wandering with their friends of opposite sex.
Is there anything bad in making friends? Should we make friends only because it is in fashion? Do married persons have the right to make friends?
First of all I would like to say that there is nothing bad in making friends. They can be of same sex or the opposite sex. The main thing is the wave length. Sometimes we find it easy to have same wave length with the person of same sex and sometimes with the opposite sex. But the problem is that in India being capable to have a same wave length with the person of opposite sex is taken otherwise. Friendly relationship with the opposite sex is considered a sin. People always find something fishy in it.
I think everybody needs a friend with whom he can have heart to heart talk Who is capable to pacify his emotions and guide him wherever and whenever needed. I feel married person are not the exception. They do have the right to have friends but I do feel that they must have a good balance between their family and friends otherwise they may lose both and may be left empty handed.
I would like to say make friends if it is your need not because it is in the fashion otherwise you may lose more and get less.

Vanshika, i feel that,
all these things depends on the situations you are in. May it be fashion or not, fashions are also not allowed everywhere. If you ask my personal opinion, i would say there is no harm in making friends of opposite sex,actually friends are not made, we get them as gift from Gods, just as our thoughts and frequencies meet.
The hearts should be clear and so should be your relationship.

I agree with you There is no harm in making friends and sometimes we get them automatically as we have same thinking pattern. But I would like to add that a woman has to be very careful while handling a male friend as most of the time it is seen that he tries to take undue advantages. Though it is not every time but for a woman it is not very practical to have male friend or friends. If she has she must have wisdom and boldness so that if problem arises she is able to handle. I wrote in the very beginning, that may it be a fashion or not, they are not allowed everywhere, and if a woman is having male friends she should be knowing how to handle them, thats what i said in the end, minds and relationships should be clear.
It cannot be called as fashion Vanshika
I suppose this debate can go on forever as far as India is concerned.But having a healthy relationship with members of opposite sex can be just friendship and nothing else.But fashion?Not a good idea.It could lead to problems in the long run.

Within our circle of friends we have had men and women maintaining very good and healthy friendships. So long as each one of us know and respect each other and our limits, it has never gone beyond a warm friendship or crossed the line in any manner. I suppose your culture in India is strictly influenced by religious conservatives which does not permit the unchaperoned friendship of men and women and so is looked upon with a negative approach.

My heart weeps
when people are unable to differenciate between a good friendship and bad friendship. They see the relationship with their own spectacles. I would not say that people in India are not accepting the relationship between opposite sex. There are many cases in which people easily digest good relationship between opposite sex.
