Cholesterol and Your Heart, Part 1
One of the most important organs in your body is your heart. The food you eat has a direct impact on the way your heart functions. A healthy diet is essential to keeping your heart strong. A weak heart cannot pump blood throughout your body the way you need it to. Finding heart-healthy food is easier than it used to be, especially now that so many preprepared heart-healthy foods are available in the supermarket.
One of the main things to look for when looking for heart-healthy foods is cholesterol. There are good cholesterols, also known as HDL, and there are bad cholesterols, known as LDL.
Good cholesterols take excess bad cholesterol to the liver. The liver breaks it down so that it can be recycled and eliminated by your body. You don't need to obtain LDL at all, especially from your foods. Believe it or not, your body makes all the LDL it needs on its own. The bad cholesterol, or LDL, hurts our hearts whereas the HDL helps our hearts. Having enough HDL will enable your body to reduce the amount of LDL that is found in your body.
