Talent hunt shows – REALITY BITES!!

Are the numbers of talent hunt shows on television genuine enough to find India’s most talented singer - the Star Voice or the Indian Idol!? Do the contestants get votes truly because of their singing? The final results of these shows many a times have sparked such questions.
Since the winner is decided on the basis of public voting, these shows have become a display of regional pride rather than hunt of loyal talents. These so called reality shows have now become part of almost every big channel and do have a reasonably good viewer-ship, not to forget the ample lots of SMSes these shows draw. Many a times the contestants sing their regional songs and also appeal for votes in their regional language. The channels encourage this as the more number of SMSes the contestants get – the more is the money made by the channels and the mobile operators.
The much hyped results of these contests are often followed by half to one hour long discussions on the News channels, often quizzing the judges, contestants and producers associated on the candidness of these shows. Amidst the strenuous claims made by the associated producers or judges, the news anchors often conclude that these talent hunt reality shows are more like elections and less like a genuine hunt to find India’s most talented singer!

Talent hunt
I differ from your views.Recently, the Vijay TV , a satellite (Tamil) channel conducted a singing competition at first for seniors and then for juniors. The public opinion invariably tallied with the results of the judges. Moreover, the public opinions are also influenced by the decisions of the judges at various stages.Especially in the selection of super singer junior, the topper was mostly chosen as a topper among the judges. So also he was among the public. But I don't know anything about what is happening in the Hindi-belt.rabasure

TV Talent Shows
It is obvious that such programmes are visualized and produced from business point of view so talent hunting is a secondary thing. The results also reflect the regional monetary aspects more but less consideration for real talent and the technicalities of singing.

They are like elections
Hi Ashni,
I have been watching "sa re ga ma pa" and Amul "Voice of India".Public voting is biased.
It should be left to the judges to decide.Becoz they know the technicalities.
Best wishes!
