RCT or root canal treatment in pregnancy
Well as far as zinc ox eugenol is concerned, I would say that if at all u need to use, use a cotton pellet dampened/ moistened with eugenol & not the whole powder mixed with eugenol as the active ingredient is eugenol.(may be the chelated mix has a different use- plz enlighten)
Basically eugenol is a COUNTERIRRITANT analogous to a balm used for headaches(irritant effect of eugenol masks the deep seated pain) & so it acts as a calming agent or an obtundant & so the effect will be limited as it ll mask the pain & not effectively releive it.
It may have been banned in Scandinavian countries but I think Endodontic community is still divided on that as further studied r needed to substantiate the claim that they have indeed some serious drawbacks that would warrant its ban. Till then this Septodont based non-arsenic devitalizer continues to be used in other countries , including N.America.
Morover the divitalizer seems to have an increased radius of action(effects those areas of canal , which r not in immidiate contact) as opposed to the limited action of eugenol.
Plz comment!!

hi
In pregnancy, only the second trimester is safe for any dental treatment.in first and fourth trimester its contraindicated because everything matters, during the treatment teh posture of the patient plays a very important role, you cannot ask patient to lie normally on a dental chair. While doing the treatment some contractions occurs which can cause premature birth and is harmful for baby as well as mother.Secondly, during pregnancy some patients cannot resist eugenol smell.Last but not the least RCT is a long procedure, first and last sitting takes minmum of 20 minutes, during pregnancy you cannot ask patient to lie down for a longer time .
