Tale of Tippu sultan’s war elephant part -conclusion

He will surely save the elephant’s eyes, it is possible only by His grace.” The sultan immediately agreed that he would surely grant every thing that this Hakim asked for and he would do anything to save his elephant ‘s eye. The wise aged Hakim then said-“ it is a very strong belief that –any disease which cannot be cured by a specialist Hakim can be cured by this Hakim of Hakims and that was the only alternative left.” So the Sultan was very eager to know all about this wonderful Hakim and wanted him to treat his elephant. The wise Hakim then said that the Sultan should just –pray sincerely to this Hakim and agree to offer something with devotion after the elephant’s eye diseases was totally cured and that was all. The Sultan was indeed surprised but agreed to do it during his evening prayers and wait for the miracle to happen.
Whether it was coincidence or faith, which miraculously cured the elephant’s eye problem we don’t know, but within a week the elephant’s eye became healthy and the elephant was totally healthy. So true to His words Tippu summoned the wise Hakim and asked him to take him to this wonderful miracle maker so that he could thank him and offer something as promised. Then the wise Hakim said-Sultan –it is Lord Shiva Himself who cured the elephant’s eye infection and He is worshipped in the nearby temple by all those whom he has cured so, now you too could offer some thing as a token of gratitude. And Tippu Sultan agreed to this and as per the advice of his wise men and ministers made a Shivalinga in Jade and installed it after engraving there the reason for this grand gesture. Whether it is man or a mammal people pray this deity to cure their aliments and the faith healing takes place and so you see people, according to their capacity have been offering anything and everything. The above was the story that granny recited after we saw the beautiful shinning jade idol, which was worshipped with fervour and gratitude.
This story made me ponder about many things-Tippu’s elephant ‘s eye infection, his devotion towards his citizens, cheetah, which was trained to hunt for him, people’s belief and if that could cure aliments, granny’s capacity to narrate story as if she herself witnessed all that. Well we did have a great day and I hope you enjoyed the story too.
