Ten reasons why Indians celebrate Deepavali

As most of us would know, word Diwali is the corruption of the Sanskrit word " Deepavali" - Deepa meaning light and Avali meaning a row.

We also know that it is mainly related with the legend of Rama, Sita and Laxman's return to Ayodhya after their victory in Lanka and the concurrent end of their exile. But there are more legends and historical facts associated with this day. Here are ten such reasons to celebrate Deepawali as per Hindu mythology and Indian history:

10) Pope John Paul added another reason with his Deepavali Speech in 1999 which came at a special Eucharist performed in an Indian Church where the altar was decorated with Diwali lamps while the Pope had a " Tilak" marked on his forehead for the occasion.
