Why we celebrate deepavali and how?
Deepavali means the rows of lights. We celebrate it in festive mood and in course of time it changed many avatars. Finally now we remember it as a celebration of bombs, crackers and goddess Lakshmi. Please go through the small description provided below.
Since time immemorial we fallow many customs on this land. We follow them in a conventional manner and this convention generates sound confidence and belief in us.
As a part of it we invite our deceased forefathers in the mahalaya (a fortnight meant for them). When we invite them we need to bid the good bye also. So the provision for bidding the send off, we show them lights through out the lane and show them the way to their world. It is the real concept behind deepavali. Have a look at the process....
A day before deepavali, that is on Narakachaturdashi (especially in the time of the constellation Swati) one must take bath by massaging sesamum oil. After the bath tarpan has to be performed to the lord Yama.
On the day of Deepavali also one must take bath in the same way and they have to appease the fore fathers in way of tarpan etc.
On the evening there is the provision to pray to weed out the poverty by praying goddess lakshmi. On both of the days one should have fast in the day time.
