Atma is immortal
According to genetics the nucleus of the cell contains data of the ancestors. The data available in the nucleus can be printed out in lakhs of volumes. But still human beings are unable to decipher the data and they assume that nothing is left in that literature. The nature and the qualities of both maternal and paternal side come to the offspring and the wishes of the living being becomes strong in the next generation which gives birth to a strong organic evolution. Which, the living beings try to disown will be disappeared in the next generation and the prime example is the tail of the human beings.
The genes can not be destroyed. A single and simple element of the body can help to generate the same living being. The fine example for this is the cloning which takes good amount of place in tabloids. It clears that nothing can be destroyed. "nainam chindanti shastrani......." is a verse from the Bahgavadgita where Lord Krishna asserts that no element like weapons, air, water, fire etc have the power to destroy the Atma. Which mentions that we are indebted to all of our ancestors for the prowess we achieved by birth. It is not because of our merits but because of the transformation of the information and data from the immortal Atma. So we need to pay tributes, to pay gratitude for the indebtedness. That great gratitude paying ceremony is being practised by us in India since time immemorial. That is called the Shraddha. Though we take it in a wrong and sinful way it does not spell any thing in that way. It's a pure custom which purifies us and strengths the chain of strong human cycle. It indicates a great thought and sound management of solid society by producing the luminaries for the betterment of the society and living beings by the designers of our culture.
