RED IS HOT-HOT!

Ashni05's picture

What’s common with an apple, a strawberry, sindoor, gulal, a post-box, an Indian bride and the alta on her feet? Well it’s the color-red. Auspicious, reverberant, emotional, and ambitious red aptly shades India on every occasion, festival and celebration. Imagine India Without red. No red saris, bangles, turbans, sindoor. No red gulal on Holi, red crackers on Diwali, red tilak on our forehead. No red sweet strawberries, no red hot chilies………………huh! It’s hard to live without red. Even God bestows blessings on us every morning through the rich red sun in the sky.

Red is also associated with faith. Every temple has at least one red flag atop. The deity of goddess is draped in red clothes and dupattas. Every deity has the red powder spread on the stone beneath it. The sacred thread ringed and tied on the worshipper’s brow also has the holy color red.

Hey! I just mentioned red as a holy color. There’s another reason to it. Think of a Hindu marriage - a holy union of two souls. The bride nowadays might not wear a red dress, red bangles or a red bindi, but she has to allow the groom to apply the red powder (sindoor) on her hair’s parting.

Red symbolizes love and that’s visible abundantly during the valentine season. Red roses, hearts, balloons and gifts are very common. And if you wanna propose that gorgeous lady out there, then just gift her red roses-they’ll say it for you. Now there can be two possible outcomes; either she blushes red or your face turns red by the short and strong impact of her fingers on your cheek and certainly you know which one’s in your favour.

I have a love-hate relation with the red color. As a child I used to hate the red crosses drawn by my teacher on my notebook, but that only helped me to perform better. I hate gulal but I can’t resist buying a red-hot-tee every time go shopping.

Red also reflects various shades of emotions like cheeks glowing with love, eyes burning with anger and face turning red due to shame or shyness. Having the longest wavelength red is used in warning signs, stoplights, aircraft warning lights atop towers and atop the screaming VIP cars. Red may be different things to different people but above all it’s the color of warmth, love, joy and passion. Red is the color of life.
