Tourists Unwilling to Go Green
A new survey has revealed that holidaymakers are not always willing to spend money on reducing the environmental impact of their travel.
The study, by TNS Travel & Tourism, reported the Spanish as the most likely to fund sustainable travel. Around 12% have contributed to schemes that minimise damage to the environment.
According to the survey, Americans are the least inclined to take action in offsetting their emissions, with just 16% intending to change. This compares to around 32% of Italians who said that they will switch to greener methods of travel. Meanwhile, only 2% of Germans have paid to fund offsetting projects.
Whilst a fifth of British people claim that they expect to amend their travel plans with environmental impact in mind, only 7% have acted on these intentions and offset their emissions.
Besides this, Britain was listed as the country most likely to opt for other forms of transport, and 36% are in favour of trading in their cars for public transport.
