Who are we to stop them?

vanshika's picture

Childhood - a golden period of life. A age where everything seems colorful and rosy. There is a chance of flying like a bird in the sky. Twinkling stars are there to brighten the shining of life. Fragrance of fresh roses is there for welcome. Stream of water is there to freshen up the mind as well as body. There is no worry as parents are there to take care of every need and desire. How good the childhood is. But does the childhood have same meaning for all the children?

There are lots of children for whom childhood is not less than a trouble. They do no have parents or if they have they are incapable of supporting them. As a result they are left with no option than to sacrifice their childhood in order to arrange food, clothes and shelter. For surviving they need to work as with out money they can not fulfill their basic necessity. But their troubles do not stop here. Government does not allow them to work as they are minor. People can not come forward to help them because it is illegal to keep these children for work.

Does government which is unable to feed them, give them clothes and arranges a roof for them have the right to ban child labor? When this question is raised most of the government officials are found talking about mid day meal, financial help, orphanages and so on. Everyone knows how safe the mid day meal is. Financial help is just a drama. All the money goes to the politicians and government officials. Most of the orphanages are badly maintained and are not less than a hell.

When children are unable to earn through decent ways they start begging but interestingly even begging is illegal. What does government want these children to do? They can not work. They can not beg. Government can not take care of them. Does such type of government have the right to stop them from earning their livelihood? I would like to ask people. Do animals not let their children become self dependent? Then why is a human being not ready to let their children experience life and learn. In my opinion child labor is not bad at all. Instead of banning it government should modify its policies.
1. Government should arrange those kinds of work which children can do easily and thus are able to get some money.
2. It should start night schools for working children.
3. Hours of work should be fixed so that their studies does not suffer.
4. Children should be provided maximum money for their work.
5. Government should arrange tuitions for these children if needed.
These steps will not only help children become educated but also self dependent. They will be able to live that kind of life which every child wishes to have.

Yes and no to your thoughts Vanishka.

Most of these legislatures you mention here are global and governments have to fall in line. Look on the bad side first. What created these rules? This is a dog eat dog situation. Society has to play a greater role in finding solutions to these problems. Is education free in our country?
What about books and clothing? All this is free here. Yet the problem here is not as bad as you say it is in India. Together with a friend, I have taken up a school to find support. Similarly groups of people can do the same thing in a small way to start the ball rolling. All it needs is a little bit of your time, love and caring.

Have a happy day!

Yes Vanshika

Childhood is the golden period of life.I believe charity begins at home.

We as parents sometimes fail to understand their needs. In the rat race to make them study and score more marks we forget that they have the right to spend some time as they want.

Great article!
Made me think a lot!

Really a very good subject

It is really a great topic to make all of us think but I am unable to understand why government does not think about these children. Being mature it is our responsibility to help these children have bright future.

Duty of government

If the system change to communist or atleast socialist form of the state then state shall be liable to brought up all children upto the age of 18 years. The best example is China

There is a need of genuine concern

Thanks for comment. I think whatever the government is in the country can help these children if it wishes to do so.

Very Good Topic

Realy it is very nice of you for writting for such a cause

Thanks Haarika

It is good to know that you spared time to comment on this article. I would be happy if government and people start thinking about these innocent children and their needs. If support is given these children may be future teachers, doctors, businessmen. businesswomen and so on.
