Is Being Nonvegetarian a Sin?

Jeena's picture

I don't think so... But one of my closest friends do and we ended up having a tiff because i like non vegetarian food. His argument is that you become responsible for the death of an animal because you eat it and that there is absolutely no gain you get from eating non vegetarian food. He says that one becomes impure by having such food and human body is not equipped for handling non-veg food. He further argues that all diseases related to the stomach including cysts/fibroids are due to non vegetarian food.

In my View this really depends on one's religion, and what type of food you eat. There are some that refuse to eat pork, as they see it as a sin, there are some that refuse beef, it really all depends on your christian demonination, and your own personal beliefs. Personally, I can't sit down to a meal without meat, bread, and potatoes!

What You Think?

I don't think, that is the question of sin -

It depends on your personal choice, if you like you can have and if you feel you should not don't eat it, very simple.

Thanks Vaishali

Simple solution for a big issue.
Thanks

Veg or Non-Veg - Only nutritious value counts

Dear Anupama,
bear no guilt of taking in non-veg food. If eating non-veg food is sin, so is vegitarian food which comes from plants. And as per my knowledge both animals and plants are a part of living kingdom. Though to some extend it is true that human body is not a carnivore but then it is not a herbivore also. Eat food for its nutitious value and not on whether its veg or nonveg. As to the tiff to your good friend, tell him that he is a much bigg sinner than you becoz he is killing many types of plants to bring variety to his food. Also that to some extend animals have their own defences but killing the defenceless is even bigger Sin.
tk care and enjoy your food!

Veg or Non-veg controversy

It is matter of taste. Personal I dislike non-veg but I do not hate non-veg people. Why should they be hated? It is not a sin.

Ok

Ya absolutely, this is a matter of taste. Thanks for the comment

It is all up to the consumer...!

It is neither a sin nor a matter of religion! Food is all about what a person is used to. For example, myself a strict vegetarian, is perfectly healthy and happy and I have seen many of my grandparents lived long and healthy inspite of veg food. But I never hesitate to join my friends who eat non-veg. I don't hesitate to eat my veg food with them. Every thing you do or you eat can be used for good health if you study them and your body properly as what it needs and what can spoil it. Don't suffer with feeling of sin, which is the first cause for psycho somatic diseases.

I think a vegetarian is missing many essential nutrients which is getting from non veg.food items which he is not consuming. So in my view he is a real loser in Life in the aspect of perfect health.
