A Hangout Area for Young People In Karachi
i became particularly aware of this phenomenon when i went to spend a month of my vacations with my uncle and his family in Singapore. Within the vicinity of their apartment building, i found an area surrounded by a boundary wall which was completely devoted to graffiti of the artistic kind... splashes of blue, red and green were everywhere, making the area appear quite appeasing to the eye. Apart from the youth having to pour out their thoughts and ideas through graffiti art without the fear of getting caught, there is a separate area alloted for young people to skateboard, rollerblade or basically to just hang out and have a good time.
After seeing this area i realised how little the city government is doing to satisfy the youth of karachi. Because of the constant threat of suicide attacks and bombings, we are left with very few options where we can go and have a good time. i believe that if the city government made a little effort then apart from young people being able to have a place to go, the continuous problem of spray painting and graffiti done on people's houses which are more of an eyesore than pieces of art shall also be cultivated n controlled.
