Nursing - A Nobel Profession

Nursing is regarded as art of caring and scientific discipline that is practice-oriented. The recipient of nursing care is the client. Each client reacts differently with changes in his/her health status, and it is the nurse’s responsibility to help clients adapt to these changes. Nurses help families to become healthy by helping them to understand the range of emotional, physical, mental and cultural experiences they encounter during illness. Nurses help people and their families to fight against illness and if necessary live with it, so that other routines of their lives can continue. Nurses do more than care for individuals. They have always have been at the forefront of change in health care and public health.

The roles and responsibilities of the nurse have considerably enhanced in the past few decades and now include, the assisting role, the instructional function, the diagnostic and patient-monitoring function, the effective management of emergency situations, the administration and monitoring of therapeutic interventions, the insurance and monitoring of the quality of healthcare practices and the maintenance of organizational and work role competencies. No other health care professional has such a broad and far-reaching role. Individual nurses have the basic responsibility for ensuring that their competencies are relevant and current on an ongoing basis. Professional nursing organizations have the responsibility to identify the competencies required by new graduates as well as promoting continuing nursing education. Nursing educators/institutions have the responsibility to prepare new graduates and to deliver nursing education programs in a flexible and accessible format.

Finally, nursing is a noble and well-respected profession which have a direct interaction with patients and other medical related personalities and this profession needs a self-commitment and dedication to work and has the excellent career opportunities and benefits for true nursing professionals.

Nursing is indeed a noble profession

CORDEC
You have come up with an article which was on my mind for a long time.I have seen nurses, who inspite of their personal problems, make sure they do their duty to perfection.Whenever I visit a doctor I never forget to thank the nurses for what they do.
This was one of your best ones.
Good luck for your future ones!
