FLOWER OMENS
WHITE LILY
White lilies Planted in the garden would keep ghosts away, but it was considered unlucky to bring them indoors.
The most ill-omened are the lilies of the valley and to be avoided when planting in your garden. However, if you still want them get someone else to plant them and then leave them alone.
Traditionally lilies are the emblems of purity and innocence and are why they are most popular at weddings and funerals.
I you do get the heavy scent of white lilies in a house it is a foreboding of death in the family, particularly when there are no flowers at all around.
FERNS
These are associated with thunder and lightning. They are hung around the house as a means of protection during thunderstorms. But, be careful that you don’t burn a fern or uproot a whole clump of it, as it will cause heavy rain or even a storm. The English call them ‘Devil’s Brushes’ and the Irish say that St. Patrick placed a curse on it and that’s why they are flowerless!
FOXGLOVE
Has several names attached to it; Fairy Weed”, “Dead Man’s Fingers”, “Witch Bells” are some of them. Superstition calls it the fairy plant and some people beg you to avoid it.
