Hammers: available in 10, 13 or 16 ounces, etc. and a variety of heads. Claws are used to extract nails. Lightweight hammers with magnetized heads are useful for extensive tacking. If handle comes loose, remove it and install larger wedge.
Hatchet: to cut plugs, wedges, kindling wood.
Level: to indicate whether a surface is level.
Mallet (wood) used to hammer on chisels, gouges, etc., where surface might be dented with a hammer.
Marking guage: to mark straight lines on wood.
Miter box: to guide a saw in cutting wood at an angle; it has a swivel arm which can be adjusted from 45 to 90?decrees. Used for making corners of picture frames, cabinets, etc.
Nail sets (punches) : punches to hammer bails below surfaces or push out pins, etc. In 1/16, 1/8, ¼ inch and other sizes. Never use punch with mushroomed head.
Nails:
Common nail (flat head, pyramidal points). Used for framework, rough work, sub-floors, holes. For finished work, heads are usually sunk in.
Finishing nails: ( little head, pyramidal points).
Brad: (small finishing nails, pyramidal points) 3/16 to 3 inches.
Oilstone and machine oil: used to sharpen knives, chisels, gouges, plane irons, etc; rub diagonally on well oiled stone. Wipe stone clean after each use. When stone becomes glazed, wash with dry-cleaning solvent or ammonia solution.
Pincers: for levering out nails, etc.
